Welcome to the Festival

The Bromley Conservatoire Festival of Music and Performing Arts is a brand-new festival celebrating young talent, creativity, and confidence. Taking place over two weekends in April and May, the Festival gives children and young people aged 4–19 years the chance to perform in a supportive, welcoming environment.

We offer a wide range of classes across music and performance, including piano, strings, musical theatre, acting, and public speaking. Whether your child is stepping onto the stage for the very first time or already has performance experience, there is a welcoming place for everyone.

Our emphasis is firmly on participation and enjoyment. We aim to create a relaxed, encouraging environment where performers can build confidence, gain valuable experience, and feel proud of what they achieve.

Meet Our Adjudicators

Helen Chenaf


Helen trained as a singer and pianist at the Royal College of Music, winning several prizes and working with renowned musicians. She has sung with Surrey Opera and Opera International, also serving as Musical Director.

As an accompanist, Helen works with Trinity Laban's Musical Theatre course and for ABRSM/Trinity examinations. She currently teaches piano, singing and theory at The Conservatoire in Blackheath.

Emma Bond


Emma trained as a singer and pianist at Cardiff University and holds a PGCE Music Secondary from St Mary's University. She is currently Director of Music at Blackheath High School.

Emma is also a freelance theatre director and choral animateur at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, where she launched a part-time acting programme coaching voice, movement and singing.

About the Venue

The Festival takes place in the Music Recital Hall at Colfe's School. This well-equipped venue offers a professional yet welcoming environment, perfectly suited to young performers.

The recital hall provides excellent acoustics and a dedicated performance space. Pianists will perform on a grand piano, adding to the excitement and authenticity of the Festival experience.

The venue has level, step-free access and plenty of on-site parking.

Awards & Feedback Process

Our awards process is designed to be supportive, motivating, and inclusive, celebrating every child who takes part.

  • Certificates: All performers receive a certificate in recognition of their participation
  • Rosettes: Performers achieving 65+ are awarded a rosette
  • Medallions: Gold, Silver & Bronze medallions for top three scores in each class (minimum 65 marks)
  • Feedback: Constructive comments to help performers develop and enjoy their journey

Scoring Categories:

On Saturday 25th April (pm) are most of the piano classes. Performers should sign up to the class which matches their level.

This class is for children aged 4 - 9 years old who have been learning piano for under 3 terms. The competitor should prepare 1 or 2 pieces with a time limit overall of 2 minutes per performer. We have another beginner piano class on Sunday 17th May for children aged 10+

On Sunday 26th April (pm) are most of the acting and musical theatre (LAMDA) classes. Performers should sign up to the class which matches their level.

Acting (Introductory or Entry level)

This class is for students who are working towards or have recently taken an introductory or entry level acting exam. The competitor will be required to perform from memory either a poem or monologue of their choosing (maximum 2 minutes in performance time). The performance should include appropriate actions/movement/use of space/facial expressions etc. The performer will be required to announce the title, author and character prior to starting their performance. A clean, legible, unannotated copy of the poem or monologue should be provided for the adjudicator.

Musical Theatre (Entry Level - Grade 2)

This class is for students who are working towards or have recently taken a musical theatre exam (LAMDA/ABRSM/Trinity/RSL etc) at Entry - Grade 2 level. The competitor will be required to sing one song (2 - 3 minutes long) taken from a published musical or film musical. The performance should include appropriate actions/movement/use of space. The song must be accompanied and the backing track should not have any backing vocals (please see T&Cs for more information). A clean, legible, unannotated copy of the lyrics should be provided for the adjudicator.

The performance should include appropriate actions/movement/use of space/facial expressions etc. The performer will be required to announce the title, author and character prior to starting their performance and to present a brief introduction outlining the context of the extract prior to the performance. The introduction should be no more than 30 seconds. A clean, legible, unannotated copy of the scene should be provided for the adjudicator.

Sunday

17th May 2026

On Sunday 17th May (pm) there are a mixture classes. There are two public speaking classes (one for primary and one for secondary aged students) alongside the Grades 6-8 musical theatre and piano classes and a beginner piano class for older learners. Performers should sign up to the class which matches their level.

Public Speaking (Primary School)

This class is for children aged 5 - 10 years old. They must present a speech of no longer than 2 minutes on a topic of their choosing. Suggested topics include; a favourite book, a memorable event/holiday/visit, a favourite item/memento, a hobby or personal interest etc. The student should have written the speech themselves and using AI to help create the speech is strictly forbidden. Note cards to display notes may be used. Competitors may use a visual aid for their performance, but this is not a requirement and will not be marked.

This class is for children aged 11 - 16 years old. They must present a prepared speech of no longer than 3 minutes on a topic of their choosing. Suggested topics include; a favourite book, a memorable event/holiday/visit, a favourite item/memento, a hobby or personal interest, the environment, a favourite film/play/musical etc. The student should have written the speech themselves and using AI to help create the speech is strictly forbidden. Note cards to display notes may be used. Competitors may use a visual aid for their performance, but this is not a requirement and will not be marked.

Musical Theatre (Grades 6-8)

This class is for students who are working towards or have recently taken a musical theatre exam (LAMDA/ABRSM/Trinity/RSL etc) at Grade 6 - 8 level. The competitor will be required to sing one song (3 - 4 minutes long) taken from a published musical or film musical. The performance must include a minimum of 30 seconds and no more than one minute of published or devised spoken dialogue in character which will either lead naturally into the song or come directly after the song. The performance should include appropriate actions/movement/use of space. The song must be accompanied and the backing track should not have any backing vocals (please see T&Cs for more information). A clean, legible, unannotated copy of the lyrics should be provided for the adjudicator.
