Music Exams at Bromley Conservatoire

Taking music exams is a great way to structure learning and showcase progress in a variety of musical instruments and music theory.

Can I book in a music exam?

As we are a private exam centre, exams are accessible to all of our music students. When we have decided on an exam date, we contact all teachers to see if any students are ready to be put forward for exams. We will then contact students to arrange payment and certificate details. If you feel you are ready for an exam, discuss it with your teacher so they can put your name forward at the right time.

Can I choose the day?

We need a certain number of students on one day in order to book a private examiner. We normally run two exam days every two terms so there is a degree of flexibility. Your time will also be assigned to you, but it is possible to change this within reason.

What happens on the day?

On the day of the exam, you will attend Bromley Conservatoire about 30mins before your scheduled exam time. You will then have a chance to warm up and adapt to your surroundings before starting your exam. You must bring your music with you and any accompanist music too. After the exam, you are free to go!

Do I need to provide an accompanist?

No, we will handle this for you, don't worry! One of the two exam days, we invite an accompanist to work with students in the warm-up and during the exam. If you are being examined on an instrument other than piano, you will need to attend this exam day or provide your own accompanist.

What about ABRSM music theory exams?

We are able to administer these at Bromley Conservatoire in our computer room! You will need to bring a form of ID and a water bottle with you when you attend. These are completed online so the booking is much more flexible although we do try to group student bookings together to make the process more streamlined. Exams last around 2 hours and are supervised.
