Biography​

Hi there, I'm James, a jazz guitarist and music educator based in London. I have had 5+ years of teaching experience, both privately and in schools, teaching all styles of guitar including jazz, classical, pop/rock and acoustic, to all ages and abilities. As a professional guitarist, I have performed with jazz groups In the UK, across Europe and in South Korea at both jazz festivals and concert venues. I have also done session work in pit bands and recording studios. My primary aims in teaching are to create a fun, engaging and productive learning environment for my students where they can grow their love and passion for music. I also aim also to make sure each one of my students is given the best tuition and guidance that best suits their needs. With my experience, I have learned to adapt my teaching style to each student, as every student learns differently.

Teaching Experience

I have taught privately for 5 years and in schools for 2 and a half years. My private teaching has involved teaching young beginners the first few steps of classical guitar to helping advanced guitarists work towards their conservatoire auditions. I have also taught older students (60yrs +) who are picking up the guitar after not playing for 10 years. My school teaching has been involved teaching small and large groups of beginners in primary schools, to teaching older students learn their favourite pop/rock songs. I have also helped organise prepare school concerts at the ends of the school year, all of which were very successful! With students performing well who had only started learning 6 months before. The majority of my teaching has been teaching primary schools, and this is something I enjoy a lot. I have also been involved as a support tutor at jazz summer schools.
