Experience
David has well over 30 years' experience teaching classical guitar to students of all ages from four years old, to those in their 70s. He has previously taught at the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial school in Holland Park, Virgo Fidelis School in Upper Norwood and others.
He also teaches the Renaissance lute, the mandolin, the ukulele, music theory (counterpoint/harmony/orchestration/analysis) and composition.
David is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, the University of Oxford, and the Cracow Academy of Music.
In addition to his widely sold book Play Classical Guitar David uses a vast range of methods and a high level of flexibility to draw out the each student's innate abilities. These range from a purely instrumental focus (before teaching to read notation) drawing on techniques from other genres, and always developing general musicianship and timing.
David is of the opinion (borne out through his three decades' work) that everybody is musical and that it is a natural and fundamental part of being human. The skill lies in bringing out this ability in away that is both enjoyable and satisfying, with the result that each student feels a real sense of achievement and sees quick progress with their playing and learning.
